CZ.NIC Publications Releases Book for Teenage Internet Users

Prague, 17 December 2013 – The CZ.NIC Association has expanded its book series with another title. The seventh book to be published is a Czech translation of Own Your Space by Linda McCarthy, renowned security expert with more than twenty years of experience in security audits and consulting. The electronic version of the book is freely available for download at At the same address, you can also order a printed version for CZK 199; the price is CZK 30 lower if ordered over IPv6. Printed books will be sent out by CZ.NIC at the beginning of the new year.

“Own Your Space is a comprehensive, high quality source of information on computer security and the risks of using the internet intended both for teenage users and their parents. I am not aware of any other book available in Czech that provides such detailed and yet simple to follow information on all the risks associated with using the internet. This book is a must for all teenagers who actively use the internet,” writes Pavel Bašta, CZ.NIC security analyst, in the preface.

Presented topics include cyberbullying; readers will learn how to prevent infection from computer viruses, how to maintain their privacy on social networks and how not to fall prey to malicious users of the internet. They will also learn what phishing, hacking or cracking are. The author also focuses on more technical topics such as the inner workings of an internet connection or how to set up a secure home WiFi network.

Linda McCarthy is a respected author and security expert with more than twenty years of experience in security audits, consulting and training. She worked as the director of Internet Security at Symantec and Security Research and Development manager at Sun Microsystems. Linda McCarthy is also the founder of Network Defence. In 2004, she received the prestigious Women of Influence award in the field of computer security from CSO magazine and Alta Associates. For Symantec, she created an internet educational programme for youth. Own Your Space was released in 2006.
